Team News
Again nothing too positive to report this week as unfortunately our teams continue to struggle this season, Pat Corry’s J.B.Carr team have exited their event going down 4-1 at Co.Cavan G.C on Monday, two of the matches unfortunately lost out at the 19th hole having finished all square, The Donegal League team under the stewardship of Vice-Captain Declan Doherty have also exited that tournament with Greencastle picking up the 1.5 pts they needed also on Monday night to progress to the next stage. One note of positivity however Peter Doherty’s Donegal League Junior squad hold a 6-1 lead over Buncrana after Saturday’s home tie, the one match lost came at the 21st hole, good luck to them in their upcoming away tie.

12th Strabane Senior Scratch Cup win for Enda (Sun 10th June 2018)
Defending Champion Enda Kennedy (0) completed his 12th Title win in the Strabane Senior Scratch cup which was again very kindly sponsored by Frylite Ltd. This was in fact the 6th occasion on which Enda had successfully retained his title he first won back in 1996, age seems to hold no barriers for the Strabane man who these days plays his golf out of Rosapenna G.C., the second eldest player in the very talented field was still the clear favourite and he was not found wanting returning a two over par first 18 holes to lead by one at the halfway stage coupled by a one over par second 18 to leave him on a 141 total which was a fine return with the course playing very difficult on Sunday, Enda ran out a clear five shot winner from talented the Ballybofey G.C. teenager Ryan Griffen on 146 who took first gross, 2016 winner Jamie Stothers took 2nd gross one further shot back on 147, Peter Hasson was fourth gross with149 with Stephen Martin fifth gross with 151. In the Nett section the popular winner was Caolan Crawford with 138 Nett, with his dad Darren taking the runners up spot in the section two shots behind on 140 Nett, Patrick McCrossan was third nett on 141 thanks to a brilliant second 18 holes where he was only two over par!, fourth Nett went to Damian Roarty on 143 with Fred McGavigan fifth on 144. The longest drive prize which was measured at the 18th hole also went to Caolan Crawford, a full list of prize winners can be found on the club website and Facebook page.

Devine Sand and Gravel Open Stroke (Sat 9th June 2018)
If Sundays Competition saw relatively high scores the same could certainly not be said on Saturday when in the Devine Sand and Gravel competition the proverbial Lights were shot out with some amazing scores posted. The winner playing of 23 handicap was Niall Kelly with an amazing total of 59 Nett which was unbelievably only good enough by only one shot from Jim Potts(18) who was the very unlucky runner up with 60 Nett. Shay Callaghan (8) too would have felt extremely unfortunate after returning his best ever score of just one over par which was 62 Nett in third place, Terence McDermott (19) was fourth with 63 Nett with Barry Patterson (6) taking fifth with 64 Nett also again just one over gross on the day! The gross prize went to Eoin O’Neill (6) with a fantastic one under par round of 68,Eoin holed his second shot at the 18th hole for an eagle two! The categories went to Noel McConnell (11) with 64 Nett in Category one, John Wylie (12) with 65 Nett in category two and to James Magee (21) with 64 Nett in category 3

Declan Devine Frozen Foods Open (Mon 4th June 2018)

Last Tuesday’s ladies day winner was Monica McGettigan (23) with 70 Nett to win the Eileen Keery memorial cup, the category one winner was Heather Mitchell (19) with 74 Nett with Mary McCrory (31) the category two Winner with 74 Nett also.
Ann Sharkey’s Tyrone & Fermanagh team have work to do, to progress to the next stage having secured a narrow 3-2 win over Killymoon Ladies on Monday evening in their home tie, good luck to them in the return match this Friday evening.

Last Wednesdays mixed foursomes was the Worcester cup qualifying competition, the best return on the evening came from Geraldine McCrory & Liam McDevitt with 58.5 Nett, the runners up were Debbie Mc Daid & Gerry Casey with 59 Nett with Carole McFeeters & Foncie McNally with 60 Nett, a full list of the draw can be found on the clubs Facebook page. The entry sheets for both the Lady Captains and Captains mixed events are posted on the respective noticeboards.

Team News
It’s fair to say that the club men’s teams have not had a successful year to date and unfortunately that trend continued somewhat this week, on Friday Mark Gillespie’s Ulster Cup team went out losing 8-6 overall to Malone G.C, the Phair cup team suffered a very heavy home defeat to Castlehume on Friday evening 2-14 and would need a miracle to advance in that one, the O’Hare cup team were in action on Wednesday evening but only secured an 8-8 result against Enniskillen G.C and they too have a difficult task in the away leg next Wednesday in Fermanagh.

The Habinteg Housing association teams scramble will take place this Friday 15th June having being postponed a fortnight ago, times can still be booked on the BRS. Teams in any combination are welcome to enter for the excellent prizes and very worthy cause.
Other upcoming events of note are Next Sundays Noel McCrory memorial Ladies & gents open and the following Sunday’s Ballycolman Vivo Charity open which has £1,500 in prizes up for grabs, all funds raised in this one will be going to the “Tristans Dream” Charity, a big turnout for both these events would be very welcome.

The winner of last week’s £50 bar credit draw was Paul McNally.

Sat 16th John Fahy & Co open Stableford

PAT KIRK LTD WIN FOR PETER (Sat 2nd June 2018)
Peter Donaghey (16) was the Saturday competition winner at Strabane this week picking up the major prize kindly sponsored by Pat Kirk LTD. This was Peter’s first major win and it was done in some style with a great total of 43pts, 22pts were registered on the way out despite a blank hole at the par four- 4th hole, a solid 21pts on the back nine set up the winning score, the runner up was Kieran McAleer (24) who also recorded his best result to date finishing just one point back on 42pts, a double bogey 6 at the last cost him the opportunity to take his first win, Paul McGill(6) is no stranger to the winners enclosure, he made sure of another visit there with a brilliant level par round on Saturday which was also converted to 42pts to take third place, three birdies on the first nine had saw him total 24pts on the way out!, fourth on Saturday came Peter Etherson (21) with 40pts with Paul McNally(13) in fifth with 39pts. It must be said that as Saturday progressed the weather conditions took a turn for the worst with some prolonged showers having moved in from midday onwards, the top four scores had the benefit of ideal early morning conditions. Saturdays gross prize went to Conal Cooke (1) with 35 gross pts, the nines went to Brian Kelly (19) and to Johnathan McGonagle.
Declan Devine Frozen Foods Open (Mon 4th June 2018)

Team news
Unfortunately our Junior Cup team failed to qualify for their matchplay stages on Sunday at Omagh Golf Club, a few very late dropped shots saw them miss out despite young Conor Byrnes great score of one under par!
Mark Gillespie’s Ulster Cup are not without hope for this Friday’s return match with Malone G.C. having lost out 5.5-1.5 in last Sundays away leg, the return is set for Friday at Strabane with a 3.30pm start. The Phair cup & O’Hare cup teams are also in action this week, good luck to those teams.
