Club Notes – 18th July 2017

The winner of Mrs Patricia Kelly’s Ladies Captains prize was Annette Patton, pictured with the Lady Captain

Annette Patton (31) was the very popular winner of Mrs Patricia Kelly’s Lady Captains prize at Strabane on Saturday with an excellent score of 68 nett, everything was set up perfect for the big day the only disappointing factor was the weather as it remained breezy, and somewhat wet, for most of the day and umbrellas were up for most of the afternoon. Annette played very steady throughout her round and kept it going right to the finish to eventually win by a clear margin of three shots from the runner up Mary Gallagher (29), who in her own words has hit somewhat of a purple patch off late and has featured in most competition presentations throughout the past month.  The reception Mary received for her efforts on the day spoke highly of the regard in which this “super –senior” is held by her fellow lady golfers at the club. Third place on the day went to Lauren Patton (16) who was also one of four players with nett 71, the gross prize went to the always consistent Jennifer Rouse (10).
In category one the winner was Lisa Patton (15) one of the players with nett 71, the runner up in this category was Catherine Neeson (16) with nett 72.  In category two the winner was Monica McGettigan (25) with 74 nett with Dympna Doherty (22) in second with 75 nett, in category three the honours went to Donna Doherty (32) with 74 nett with Caren Corry the runner up with 75 nett. Other winners on the day in the many categories were Maeve Corry who won the front nine with 34.5 nett, Geraldine Masterson who took the back nine prize with 37 nett, the Lady guest winner was Mandy Coyne, the leading visitor was Theresa Mullen from Newtownstewart, the “Granny prize” went to Anne Sharkey, the Committee prize to Geraldine McCrory and the seniors prize went to Olive Turner.
The men were also involved on the day playing the first 11 holes, the winner of the male guest was the Lady Captains husband Dr Ciaran Kelly with 23 pts, with Francie Devine the runner up also with 23 pts, in the separate gents competition Martin Rouse was the winner with 27 pts with Jim Potts in second with 21 pts. The longest drive prize was collected by Lauren Patton with Jennifer Rouse the nearest the pin winner. The Lady Captain, in an excellent and concise speech, thanked all who had initially got her to start playing golf, going on to thank the clubs committees for all their efforts throughout the season and thanking her family friends and fellow golfers for being there to celebrate her big golfing day.
