New member Liam Doherty (24) picked up his first win at Strabane at the weekend taking the Farmers Home & Off Sales stableford event with a highly impressive 44pts in very windy conditions.  Liam got to the turn with 21pts despite a blank hole at the 4th, and came back with an excellent 23pts with some very steady golf giving him a three point margin from his nearest challenger, John Blee (14), who also carded 23 pts on his inward nine holes, third place also with 41 pts came the very consistent Martin Gormley (14) with Liam Patton (15) in fourth with 39pts.  Pat O’Neill (15) kept his great run going to take fifth place also with 39pts.  The over 60’s prize on Saturday went to Michael Doyle (21) another player with 39 pts, the gross prize went to Cathal Patton (5) with 31 gross pts with the nines going to Kieran McAleer (23) and Declan McDonnell (10).  Many congratulations to Michael Kelly and to Colin McCafferty, who both recorded a hole in one in this competition and both at the same hole, the par three 7th, incidentally both players also used an eight iron for their perfect shot!  Colin’s feat was all the more pleasing as it was his first and on the occasion of his 50th birthday.  The presentation for this and other recent competitions will be this coming Friday night 5th May at 8pm sharp.

Bank Holiday Monday Open
Conditions were superb with the course really coming in to its own for Monday’s Bank Holiday Open which was won by junior player Patrick McGranaghan (8).  Patrick’s game has really moved on since he recently got to single figures and is a young golfer with a great attitude and huge potential and he’s one who seems very dedicated to the sport, Patrick got round with 40pts which was good enough by one from the runner up Alan McGinley (19) another student member who is improving rapidly this season, third place went to Martin Houston (16) also with 39 pts with the gross prize on this occasion going to Conal Cooke (2) with 32 gross pts.

The brilliant nett prizes went right down to 26th place, the first of the visitors on the day was Ronnie Young with 34 pts with Seamus Flanagan the runner up, Ronnie Young also had the only visitors two on the day.
