Club Notes – 5th July 2016

FRIEL TAKES THE FOOTHILLS OPEN
Seamus Friel (23) playing in the last four-ball out on the course was the winner of the Foothill’s Open Gortin played on Saturday past. Conditions had been difficult for most of the day with the rain and wind making good scores hard to come by, the winning score was 65 nett.  Seamus had got off to a tremendous start only four over par to the turn and looked on course for a runaway win but a succession of shots lost over the next eight holes seemed to have put an end to his chances until a great birdie at the last hole to a very difficult front of green pin position gave him revived hope and eventually a single shot win from the early morning leader Dermott Corry (13) who despite running up an ugly nine at the par five fifth hole battled well to post a 66 nett total to continue his great run of form, third place went to Kevin Neeson (11) another player to birdie the 18th hole, fourth went to Vincent Bradley (20) with 68 Nett with John Langan (14) taking the final nett prize also with 68 nett, the categories went to Patrick McGranaghan (11) with 69 nett, Damien mcCrossan (18) with 68 nett and to Enda McDonnell (23) also with 68 nett, Liam McGinley (21) won the over 60’s prize with 70 net

STRABANE A.F.C. LADIES & GENTS OPEN
With the North-West Open on and club matches away there was a smaller than expected turnout for Sunday’s Strabane AFC Ladies & Gents Open. The winner in the men’s section was Neil Conroy (12) another player who has made significant progress this season, the left handers total of 40pts was good enough by two from the runner up Fred McGavigan (4) with Shay Callaghan (8) in third with 37pts, Keith Patterson (6) took the gross with 31 gross pts. The winner in the Ladies section was Lisa Patton (16) with 38pts. No one managed to secure a hole in one at the par three 16th hole which would have yielded the prize of a brand new car.

Hugh Harley Memorial
Despite the horrible weather conditions for last Thursday’s Hugh Harley Memorial Cup there was still a decent entry of 94 players.  The winner was trainee greenkeeper Lewis Jones (14) with a great total in the wet conditions of 41 pts, second went to Rodney Dolan (23) with 39pts with Rory Doherty (9) maintaining his great form to take third place with 38 pts, Eoin O’Neill (4) took yet another gross prize with 33pts on this occasion.
