Club Notes – 26th January 2016

At the third time of asking the Thursday Club final day for phase one finally took place on Thursday last with a very good entry of 65 members taking part. Best return over the 15 holes in play came from Kevin McGinley(12) with a very tidy 37pts, recorded in one of the early four-balls on the course, who all played in the squally showers that prevailed until mid-morning, although a very strong breeze after midday equalled the playing conditions for most of the day’s entry. The runner up on the day was Liam McGinley (20) just one point back on 36 pts, the ever consistent Oliver McNally(18) took third place also with 36pts with Stewart McFeeters in fourth with 35 pts, Kevin Gallagher was placed fifth with Foncie McNally 6th on this occasion. A very enjoyable social evening followed the presentations with music from local songwriter Terry McCafferty.
Phase two of the Thursday Club is now well under way with the final day away set for Donegal Golf Club on Thursday 28th April, new members are still welcome to join.

The Leo Kavanagh Winter Cup sponsored by Sperrin Springs has also finally concluded the semi-finals and final having to be rescheduled frequently due to the recent unsettled weather pattern.

The eventual winners were Oliver Creswell and Joe Kennedy who just got the better of Jim Potts and Declan Doherty in a close final, third placed was claimed by Peter Doherty and Franke Gallagher with Rodney Dolan and John McCallion in fourth which was a very creditable performance for this pairing in their first ever pairs event. The presentation date for this competition will take place this coming Sunday 31st January at 6.30pm.

Recent Saturday competitions too have been badly affected by the inclement weather although 70 players did take out cards on Saturday past, the best return was made by Charlie Patton (18) with 37.5pts nett, the runner up was Paul Kavanagh (21) with 36pts with Martin Finlay (19) in third with 36pts nett.  The gross winner was Jimmy Callan.

The Monday team event has also resumed after the New Year. The latest winners were Club President Jim Arbuckle, Kevin Gallagher, Martin Finlay and Pascal McGillian with 92pts Nett. The runners up were Denis Porter, Stewart McFeeters, Jim Wasson and Hugh Casey with 90.75 Nett.
