BUSY WEEK OF INTER-CLUB GOLF AT STRABANE

This week has been an extremely busy one on the inter club golf front at the club, and a very successful one too and thankfully it coincided with the year’s best spell of weather, with high temperatures and glorious sunshine for most of the week. Garvin Godfrey’s J.B. Carr squad are in pole position to qualify for the All- Ireland finals at Woodenbridge Co.Wicklow in September after Mondays first leg home leg Ulster final with Co.Cavan G.C having built up a 4-1 advantage after a very good performance against formidable opposition, two matches in the away leg will be required to advance and certainly nothing will be taken for granted as there is still much work to be done.
Liam Curry’s O’Hare Cup team are also in prime position to reach yet another Tyrone & Fermanagh final having accumulated an excellent 15 pts from a possible 16 after last Thursday’s semi-final home leg against close neighbours Newtownstewart.
Frankie Connolly’s Conway Cup team are back in this year’s final after wrapping up their second leg semi-final over Castlehume G.C.having secured an excellent 8.5-7.5 win at the Co Fermanagh venue last week they duly obliged in Friday’s home leg running out very comfortable 14.5- 1.5 pts. Our youthful Fred Daly team have a 5-2 lead to protect after their home leg last Friday, also against Castlehume G.C. in the last 16 plate match, the boys still have some work to do here and will need 2.5 Matches in the away leg on Sun 10th August to advance to the quarter finals.

Many congratulations also to the Ladies Intermediate Cup team under the captaincy of Anne Sharkey, who for the first time have qualified for the Ulster semi-finals and final day on Sunday 10th August, having built up an excellent 4-1 first leg advantage over Armagh Ladies last Monday showing great determination in winning three of the matches on the last green. A very strong Armagh side still had very high hopes of overturning their first match showing but great wins from Catherine Neeson and Lauren Patton secured Strabane’s place on finals day.
