Club Notes – 15th July 2014

Open week which at began on the previous Sunday came to a conclusion on Saturday with the Mark James Open Stableford which was played from the Blue Markers and that combined with the incessant rainfall for the greater part of the late morning and afternoon made decent scoring very difficult indeed. Fifteen year old left hander Connor McCool (10) has been making great strides at the game in this past couple of years and it was he who led the way home on Saturday with a solid round of 40pts to take the top prize. The runner up was Matt Curran (16) who has been in excellent form lately and he returned 39pts on the day. Third went to Paul O’Hare (14) with 38pts with Rory Doherty (16) in fourth a further point back on 37 pts, Declan O’Hare (8) has also been having an excellent golfing season and he added fifth place here to his list with 36pts, The gross went yet again to Conal Cooke (1) with 35 gross pts. The nines were collected by Jude O’Neill (16) and by John Langan (12) with Hugo McCusker taking the over 60’s Prize on this occasion.

Thursdays open was sponsored by & Munchies Takeaway with Cathal McLaughlin (16) maintaining his excellent run off good form taking the win with 40pts mainly thanks to a fine inward nine where he recorded 23pts. The unlucky runner up was Paul McGill (6) only beaten on break of tie, third went to Marc Brolly (16) another with 40pts, Marc had raced to the turn with 23pts but failed to capitalize on the back nine, a double bogey five at the par three 16th maybe costing him the win. Enda Kennedy +1 playing most of his golf out of Rosapenna at present had 4 birdies on his way to a two under par 38 pts to take the gross prize.

There was a great turnout for the JD.Print Open mixed foursomes on Wednesday evening with 27 pairs competing.  The winners were Annette Patton and Denis Porter with an eye catching 40pts to win by a clear margin of 4 shots from the runners up Lauren Patton and Conor Sharkey with Donna Doherty and Nigel Houston in third beaten on break of tie. The gross winners were Lisa Patton and Patrick McCrossan.

Clare’s Salon Ladies Open.
Clare Maxwell

The categories were won by Lisa Patton, Maeve Corry and Geraldine McCrory, with the nines prizes going to Orla Quinn and Lady Captain Bernie O’Kane. Patricia Devine from Newtownstewart G.C took the visitors prize.
