Club Notes – 8th July 2014

lady captains 016

Patricia Kelly(30) was the lady receiving all the plaudits on Saturday as she took the top Ladies prize of the golfing season in winning Mrs Bernie O’Kanes Lady Captains prize with an excellent total of 67nett, which on the day prevailed by a single stroke. Thankfully the heavy showers forecast for the day managed to fall elsewhere and the Ladies branch enjoyed a perfect day for the big occasion although the south-westerly breeze made good scoring fairly difficult throughout. Patricia had got off to a very steady start and managed to recover from an ugly quadruple bogey seven at the par three 7th hole to finish very strongly over the last three holes in posting her winning total. The unlucky runner up on the day was Donna Doherty (32) who will regret a triple bogey seven at the final hole where a five would have given her the win, nevertheless this was also a fine performance from Donna as only the winner and herself managed to break 70 in the course of the day. In third place came Ladies secretary Maeve Corry (21) who has been in fine form of late and another very steady round of 70nett saw her again on the winners rostrum. Lisa Patton (15) took the gross prize with 89 gross to add to the prize for the longest drive which she also collected.

The category winners were Dympna Doherty (18) with 72nett in category one , Olive Turner (24) with 72nett in category two and to Geraldine McCrory (29) with nett 71 in category three. The nines prizes went to Geraldine Masterson with 31 nett for the first nine and to Rosemary Wilson with 35 Nett for the back nine.

The committee prize went to Mary McCrory, the senior prize to Isobel Duffy ,the granny prize to Mary Casey, nearest the pin went to Abby Maxwell. The top Lady visitors prize was won by Marian O’Reilly with 28pts while Nigel Houston with 37pts took the men’s guest prize. In the separate men’s competition played over 13 holes Declan O’Hare took first with 29pts one clear of the runner up Paul McNally.

The Lady Captain delivered a brilliant presentation speech thanking all who had helped her throughout her year to date and received a very much deserved standing ovation at the close.
