HEAVY RAIN STOPS PLAY

Saturdays highlight event the Mark James Open fell victim to the

Continuing poor summer weather with lashing rain making it impossible for play to proceed and the competition was abandoned for the day just after lunchtime. This event will now be played as part of Open Week on Friday 12th July.

Thursdays rescheduled competition the Foothill’s Restaurant barely survived the torrents too with the downpours hitting the course just after 6pm leaving it almost impossible for play to continue, but continue it did with a few brave souls battling the elements and completing their rounds .The winner was one of the mornings early starters Brian Brolly (11) who has been showing a steady improvement in form this season and his 40 pts was good enough on break of tie from Mark Bradley (18) now playing out of Letterkenny G.C who was one of the evenings late finishers, third went to Conor Sharkey (7) with a very steady 39 pts with the Gross going to Caolan Crawford (7) with 32 gross pts, the C.S.S for this event was 70-35 pts which reflected how difficult the conditions were.

Shamrocks team Classic

The Shamrocks Teams classic was able to proceed on Sunday despite the flooding of the course on the previous day the greens were able to be cut and the course presented in amazing condition considering what it had endured in the previous days, much praise again to our magnificent Greens staff for this.

The winners were in the penultimate Fourball of the day returning an excellent 102 pts were Denis Porter, Declan McDonnell, Kevin Keegan and Michael Neeson, the runners up were the long time leaders Caolan Crawford, Eoin O’Neill, Paul Houston and Johnny Gallagher with 99 pts, with third going to Aiden Corry, Oliver Creswell, Liam mcDevitt and John Doherty with 97pts.

The longest drive at the 18th hole went to Caolan Crawford.

In the junior singles Patrick McGranaghan was the winner with Shaun McCall ion the runner up.

TOPAZ MONDAY OPEN

The Monday Opens returned on Monday past and will now continue until the end of August, this week’s event was kindly sponsored by Topaz. First prize went to Jimmy Callan (12) with 40 pts with Patrick McCrossan (7) the runner up with 39 pts with Billy (Box) Doherty in third place with 38 pts, The Gross went to visiting player Max Thallon (4) with 30 gross pts.

Congratulations to our Irish Mixed foursome’s team who qualified for the Match play stages of that event at Foyle Golf club and will now meet Sunday’s hosts at a neutral venue to be decided.

Our Ulster Cup team suffered a heavy defeat at Cairndu G.G going down by 7 matches to nil, the result was not as clear cut as the score line would suggest with Two matches losing at the last and two at the 17th, the return leg is this Sunday.
