HARRON TAKES CAFFE FRESCO OPEN

James Harron playing of nine was the big winner at Strabane Golf Club this week taking the Caffe Fresco Open stableford with a good total of 39 pts in tough conditions. Only 10 players managed to break par on the day with a strong easterly wind making the course play particularly difficult.  The unlucky runner up on the day beaten only on break of tie was Noel McCrory (14) who had led the event for most of the day, Pat Corry (10) returned to a bit of form to take third place with 38 pts with Kieran Doherty (5) fourth also with 38 pts, Martin Foley (20) took the final nett prize with 37pts with the gross going to Patrick Kennedy who was only two over par for his round. The nines went to Eoin O’Neill and to Terence McGranaghan.

The final day of this years Thursday Club was played last Thursday at Greencastle Golf Club with over 70 players making the journey to the Donegal links on a fine day for Golf.  The winner was Charlie Patton (14) with 43 pts with James Callan (10) the runner up with 41 pts Hugo mcCusker (13) took third spot with Gerry Quinn (21) in fourth with 40 pts.

The Captain thanked Tommy Forbes and his committee for another successful Thursday club season,

Ladies Golf
In Ladies Golf, The Camus Cup went to lady vice-captain Bernie O’Kane with a good score of 69 nett, with the categories going to Norma Brogan with Nett 70 and to Roisin Corry with Nett 71.  The ladies were also busy on the team front and also had a successful week, Noreen McNally’s Challenge Cup team already had 4.5 matches from their away leg to Killymoon and comfortably wrapped the tie up on Friday last.   Ann Sharkey’s Minor Cup team also had a great result taking all five matches against City of Derry.  On Saturday, Rosemary Wilson’s Intermediate selection had a 3.5 to 1.5 win over City of Derry which leaves a bit of work to do in the away leg to their close neighbours.

Stephen McCay’s talented Fred Daly team had a resounding first round first leg win over Ballycastle Juniors taking all seven matches in the home encounter and should wrap up the tie next week with a very strong holes advantage also up their sleeve.

Brian O’Kane’s Ulster Fourball team had a great victory over Clandeboye Golf Club on Saturday taking all five matches, they went on to complete the win in the away leg on Sunday with Eamon McCay and Mark Sharkey having a resounding away leg win.

Members are reminded that the Annual Scratch Cup takes place on Sun 12th May, entries should be in as soon as possible to facilitate the draw which will take place early next week.
