Club Notes 16th January 13


The New Captains drive in went ahead on Sunday Last with an excellent turnout to officially welcome Dr  Ciarán Kelly and Annette Patton into their year in office, The new club Presidents were also in attendance to begin their tenure Francie Devine and Mary Duffy the new holders of those posts, good luck from all the members to everyone concerned.

A ten holes mixed competition was held in conjunction with the proceedings with Past Lady president Teresa Casey teaming up with Mark Gillespie to record a winning 27 pts to take the top prize, the runners up were Past Lady Captain Noreen McNally and her Husband Oliver who accumulated 24 pts the same total as third placed Maeve and Pat Corry, the gross prize went to Norma Brogan and Denis Porter.

Thursday Club phase one Finale

The final day of the first half of the popular Thursday club was held as scheduled on Thursday club with in excess of 70 players taking part over 18 holes on a fine Winter day for golf, many thanks to our green keeping team for having the course in such great condition despite the wet weather off late.

The popular winner was Chris Timoney who returned a fine total of 45pts to win by a shot from Martin Finlay whose total of 44 pts would have won on most occasions, in third place came the very consistent Pascal mcGillian the best of a quintet of players on 43 pts, Jim Arbuckle took fourth place with Brian Haughey in fifth, Foncie McNally in sixth and Gerry Quinn in seventh all with that total, the prizes went right down to 40pts with 23 players in all winning on the day. The second phase of the event is scheduled to start this Thursday 20th January, new members are welcome to join with an entrance fee of £10, the final day is on 25th April hopefully to Greencastle Golf Club although this still has to be confirmed.

Saturday 15 holes Competition

Martin Finlay took his good showing on Thursday into Saturdays 15 holes event to record a brilliant 40 pts which was good enough by a point from Ronnie Wiley with 39 pts in second with Gerry Casey taking third with 38 pts, the gross prize went to Patrick Kennedy who recorded three two’s in his round.

Monday Club

The Monday club got back underway on Monday last with 10 teams taking part.

The winners were Foncie McNally, Gerry Quinn, Seamus mcPhilemy and Michael Forbes with 85 pts from Aidan Coyle, Ronnie Wiley, Dermott Corry and Dermott Cairns in second place also on 85 pts.

The Super-Valu Springers League is set to get underway on Sunday with 22 teams entered so far, entries can be taken up until Sunday morning with the entry fee set to be taken off members swipe cards.
