BERNIE O’KANE WINS LADY CAPTAINS PRIZE

Following on from the previous Saturday’s Captains day it was the Lady members day to honour the Lady Captain Noreen McNally on Saturday past with an excellent turnout for their Lady Captain’s day which thankfully was played in much improved weather conditions, the rain staying away for most of the day.  The winner as it turned out was in the early morning first three-ball Bernie O’Kane (18) posting a challenging total of nett 69, which was not bettered for the remainder of the day, this was Bernie’s second Lady Captains prize in recent years having captured the Centenary years award in 2009.  The runner up on the day was the very consistent, Jennifer Rouse(19) who finished just one shot back with nett 70, with Shauna Stewart(13) third a further stroke behind with nett 71, Mandy Coyne (9) took the gross prize with 81 gross with Margaret Bonner(28) taking fifth place with Nett 73, the category winners were Lauren Patton, Heather Mitchell and Mary McGuigan with the nines prizes going to Caroline Connolly and Olive Turner, the Leading men’s guest player was Club Captain Sean MacIntyre with 37 pts, with Eric Reid taking the men’s 13 holes evening competition from Joe Elliot in second place.

St Patrick’s Gortin Team Classic
Twenty six teams took part in Sundays St Patrick’s GAA Gortin Team Classic which was played as a yellow ball event, with the team members taking it in turn to play the yellow ball with this score always having to count, the unusual but entertaining format certainly suited the winners Martin Keys, Paul O’Neill, Jimmy Henderson and Brendan O’Neill who were the clear six point winners from runners up Declan Lynch, Martin Rouse, Charlie Patton and Chris McDermott with Sammy & Rachel Devenney and Eric & Olive Reid in third place a further point back with 87 pts, the longest Drive prize went to Ryan McGowan.

Mondays Open
stableford event went to Mark Quinn (16) with a massive 44 pts which was only one clear of last year’s junior Captain Jordan Arthur (7) who was level par for his round which converted to 43 pts Robert Bell (13) took third place with 41 pts with Enda Kennedy (scr) taking yet another gross prize.

Mixed Foursomes
There was an excellent turnout for last Wednesday nights Mixed Greensomes team event which went to the quartet of Sammy & Rachel Devenney and Eric & Olive Reid with 46 pts, one point clear of the runners up Ryan McGowan and Lorna Duffy who partnered Frankie and Caroline Connolly.

Inter Club News
There were a few positive results in this weeks inter club fixtures with pride of place going to Joe Doherty’s Ulster Cup squad who came through their second round tie with Magee Island with an excellent win, they held an excellent 6-1 advantage from Friday nights home leg and finished the job off comfortably on Sunday by five matches to two at the Co. Down venue. Well done also to our Donegal League Senior Team who completed a good victory over North-West Golf club on the previous Friday. Our O’Hare Cup team Captained by Garvin Godfrey made their first appearance of the season beating Enniskillen emphatically by 15.5 pts- 0.5 pts.

Our Phair Cup team, however, went out of that event going down to near neighbours Newtownstewart with the main damage being done with a disappointing home performance.

There is music in the club this Saturday night with Sharon Nixon providing the entertainment from 10.30pm all welcome there is no cover charge.
