Cairns Wins Inaugural Forbes Open

A field of 168 players took part in the inaugural Paul Forbes Open stroke competition on Saturday. The in-form Brian Cairns posted a winning 6 under score of 63, with Ryan Stevenson securing a consecutive second place of the week coming in just one shot behind. The consistent Keith Patterson was 3rd with a 3 under score of 66 and James Langan 4th on 67.  Playing alongside the winner Cairns, Martin Patton shot a 67 to take 5th prize, whilst cousin Nicky Patton also returned 67 to win the Gross prize.

Jim Callaghan and Aidan Coyle took the Nines prizes.

Brian Patton Memorial Open

There was a large field for the second Brian Patton Memorial Open played on Sunday. Declan Lynch took first prize with an exceptional score of 43 points, beating last year’s winner Paul McGarrigle into second place on 41 pts. Nicky Patton took Gross for the second day in a row with 33pts.

3rd: John Doherty on 41 pts. 4th: Nigel Houston on 38 pts. 5th: Neil Alcock on 37pts. Nines: Fred McGavigan and Kevin Neeson. Visitor’s Prize: Sean O’Kane. Ladies Winner: Mary O’Kane 35 pts. Longest Drive (Mens) Tony Griffin; (Ladies) Lorna Duffy.

Indian House Open
Thursday Indian House Open was won by Patrick McCrossan with an incredible 43 points. 38 pts was enough to secure 2nd and 3rd place for Ryan Stevenson and young Kevin Gallagher respectively. Paddy Kennedy was there again to take the gross prize with another 1 under round.

Ladies Results
Somalia Charity Open: 1st: Dympna Doherty 36pts. Cat 1: Christine Lynch, Ballybofey 36 pts. Cat 2: Geraldine McCrory 34 pts.

Foyle Hospice Open
Jennifer Rouse continued what has been an exceptional year for her, capturing her fourth major win with 41 pts. Jennifer has already secured the title of Lady Golfer of the year 2011. Other results:- Cat 1: Bernie O’Kane 38 pts. Cat 2: Annette Patton 38 pts.

Wednesday Night Mixed
Thirty Three pairs contested this week’s Mixed with Ciaran and Patricia Kelly taking first place on 24 points (BOT) from Nicky and Margaret Wolfe. Conal Cooke and Lisa Patton came in 3rd on 23 points.

Junior Girls
The Jean Gillespie Junior Girls Cup was won by Aine Houston on 17pts with Hannah McCrory winning the Cat 1. Prize on 11 pts and Sarah Bradley the Cat 2. Prize with 7 pts.

Inter Club Golf
Congratulations to Garvin Godfrey’s O’Hare Cup  team who secured Strabane’s third consecutive win with a wonderful final against Killymoon last week. The Under 16 Boys Donegal League team are also to be congratulated having reached the final after defeating Letterkenny 4- 2 in the semis. They face North West Golf Club in the final.

Upcoming Events
The Owen Roes Team Classic will be played on Sunday 11 September. Host of prizes to be won including golf outings, all ladies team prize, nearest the pin and longest drive.

An Open 4 Ball Better Ball competition will be held on Sunday 18 September in aid of the Western Trust Respiratory Services Fund. This is a Ladies and Gents any combo event sponsored by Frylite Group. A time sheet is in operation so contact the club for details (71382271).

JD Print this Thursday; Gormleys Opticians Open on Saturday 10th; PA Driving School on Thursday 15th. The final Monday Open competition will be on Monday 12th September.

Presentations for the Junior Section take place this Friday night at 7pm.

Strabane Concert Brass will appear in concert this Sunday, 11th September, with music and singing from some well known local musicians and some great swing time arrangements. Donations on the night (no cover charge) in support of Multiple Sclerosis Society. Also appearing this Sunday will be up and coming local comedian, Ruairi Woods.
