‘2 UP 2 DOWN’ Secure Springers League

As expected “2 Up 2 Down” did enough on Sunday to secure the Super Valu Springers League having built up an unassailable lead in previous weeks, eventually running out the clear winners by a massive eight points, Denis Porter, Joe Doherty, Pat mcAneny and George Turner had indeed led from week two of the nine week competition which thankfully this year was not affected by course closures although conditions for the final weeks scramble event were extremely testing.

The very consistent quartet of Freddie Patterson, Michael Baldrick, John Brolly and Niall Coulter also held on to the runners up position with a steady return of 47.7 on Sunday finishing ahead of “Teenage Kicks” Paddy O’ Kane, Senan Roarty, Frankie Connolly and Stephen Alexander had the days best score with a brilliant 50.3 helped by a blistering triple birdie start to take Sundays sweep in convincing fashion.

The main contest in the final week was for fourth spot with“Them Boys” just doing enough to hold on Franke Gallagher, Fred McShane, Barry Whyte and Jason Kelly taking the final team prize.
The runners up in the Sunday sweep were “Sand Pit” Keith Patterson, Sean Devine, Bernard Vaughan and Sean Sweeney returning a combined scramble total of 49.7 with “B.K.L.N.” taking third place with another good score of 49.2

Saturday’s play unfortunately fell foul to the elements with the early morning snow that  covered the course putting an end to any prospects of any play.

The Thursday Club golfer of the year table is headed by John Brolly at present with 29 pts, closely followed by Michael Baldrick and Foncie McNally on 28 pts with Oliver McNally 4th on 27pts and Denis Porter 5th with 26 pts.

There were 9 teams for Mondays Team event with Ronnie Wiley, Jim Wasson, Hugh Casey and Denis Porter taking the honours with 92.5 pts, followed by Terence McGranaghan, Vincent Bradley, Paddy Doyle and Pat McAneny the runners up with 90.5

With decent weather forecast for this weekend, it is anticipated that the mens 2011 season will get in to full swing with the first scheduled competition, the John Kelly Stableford kicking things off on Saturday.

This Sunday sees the new Captains drive-in and mixed Greensomes event at 1.00pm with lots of entertainment after in the clubhouse with Jim Devine and guests providing the music highlighted by a Ladies versus Gents Back to back competition at 6.30pm
