With one week remaining in the Supervalu Springers league at Strabane Golf Club four teams remain in contention, and all could claim to have a realistic chance of emerging as victors. Last week’s big movers, “Easy Money” retained their lead at the top, their 72 point return this week taking them to 216.5 points overall. “Two R & P’s” were the top scorers this week, their tally of 77 points assuring them of second place in the table going into the final series. With 214 points they hold a slender halfpoint advantage over third placed “Likely Lads”. A further point back in fourth place lie the “Twilight Zone” who are a dozen or so points ahead of the chasing pack.

Winners in the Sunday Springers Sweep this week were:
1. Eric Reid and Johnny Potts 41 points
2. Damian Lynch and Paul McGarrigle 38 points
3. Jason Kelly and Roy Patterson 38 points

For the first time this year, the Saturday Singles was extended to the full eighteen holes and produced what can only be described as phenomenal scoring. No fewer than fourteen players broke through the 40 point barrier, as the players simply took the shortened course apart. John J. Duffy led the way with a magnificent 45 point card, though he just made it home ahead of Albert McNally who matched the winning score. Third placed Kevin McGinley only conceded one shot to par in compiling 43 points which gained him third place. Denis Porter was the winner of the gross section, his three under par return translating to yet another 43 point card.

In Week 7 of the Thursday Club, Enda McDonnell produced his best score of the winter to take the top award with 38 points. Jim Wasson and John Malcolm finished second and third respectively, each with 37 points.

A reminder that tickets for the “Flash Harry” extravaganza on Easter Sunday in the clubhouse are currently on sale and, with numbers limited, there is already a steady demand.
